In this project, Common Futures supported Siemens Energy in developing a strategy to anticipate future market developments in high-voltage transmission equipment. The energy transition creates the need for new and larger projects that would require a high-voltage connection for their operations. Many of these new projects are being developed by parties that did not need high-voltage connections in the past, hence a variety of new (potential) customers for transmission lifecycle services arises. Siemens Energy is a provider of high-voltage connection equipment and related services, and sought to better understand these potential new customers.
To understand who the new stakeholders are and their needs, wishes and challenges regarding high-voltage equipment and services, Common Futures identified innovative projects that would require high-voltage connections and interviewed their developers. Based on this analysis, Common Futures created an overview and background of these new projects and their stakeholders, and provided recommendations for new transmission services that would address challenges these stakeholders experience.
The findings helped Siemens Energy improve and expand its product portfolio for high-voltage equipment services in order to anticipate on developments in the energy system.
