Common Futures supported the North Sea Wind Power Hub team in writing their discussion paper: "Offshore Energy Hubs: Blueprints with Offshore Electrolysis".
This paper marks the conclusion of seven years of dedicated work by the NSWPH team, exploring the optimal development of 300 GW of offshore wind in the North Sea until 2050. Relevant for Dutch and international developments of offshore wind, offshore electrolysis and offshore energy hubs. Common Futures helped structure the paper, select content, and clarify and visualise the message.
The report delves into the most critical considerations for offshore electrolysis within large offshore wind farms. Most notably it:
- Provides an extensive comparison of technical, spatial, economic, operational and ecological considerations for different offshore energy hubs (on platforms, islands, or electrolysis-integrated wind turbines)
- Shows the optimal modular development of hubs, related to wind capacity, electrolysis capacity and infrastructure
- Indicates the most important blockers and enablers for the development of offshore electrolysis
